It was a school that started at Sakhigopal, Odisha in 1909 with a meagre strength of 19 students. This was the school that Gopabandhu envisioned as an ideal school. According to Gopabandhu, schools had to become man-making industries and had to be instrumental in the harmonious development of a child's personality. Bana bidyalaya was a model for other schools. Here, children from all castes and classes sat, dined, lived and studied together. There was ample scope for co-curricular activities like social service, exercise, Kavi sammelans etc. in the school. The school aimed to cultivate ideals of patriotism in the hearts of students.
